Description

This is a work of fiction. While inspired by historical events, all characters and dialogues are imagined. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental. For storytelling purposes, some historical details and the chronology of songs have been adjusted. h

The story unfolds in the autumn of 1978, at the height of Iran’s Revolution. It was a time when silence broke into shouts, when university courtyards filled with voices long suppressed, and when gatherings once filled with music and laughter gave way to urgent debates. Clergy, leftist groups, and nationalists vied to shape the nation’s destiny, and conversations spilled easily from politics into philosophy, poetry, literature, mysticism, and history. h

The protagonists of this novel come from an educated and affluent class—those who stood on the fragile edge between security and upheaval. Their lives mirror a society on the brink, and their stories touch, too, upon the exodus of elites and officials who, sensing the ground shifting beneath them, sought refuge abroad.

This is not history as it happened; it is history as it was lived and as it might have been remembered.
